This is a guided wine tasting held at Spinola Café & Lounge in St Julian's, up on Level 1 above the café. Over about two hours a host walks you through six local wines, three whites, two reds and a rosé, each paired with Maltese cheeses and cured hams, with water and breadsticks to clear the palate between pours. It is pitched at beginners and wine lovers alike, and the emphasis is as much on the stories behind Malta's winemaking as on the drinking.
Worth knowing before you book: this one is strictly for adults, with no under 18s allowed, so it is a grown-ups' outing rather than a family activity. It suits couples and small groups after a laid-back evening, and reviewers often mention friendly hosts and a small, sociable group size. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and the meeting point can be easy to miss as it sits above a shop, so give yourself a moment to find it.
You need to book ahead and pick your language, with English, Italian, Spanish and Russian offered. If you are travelling with children, this is one to save for a night when you have a sitter, but it is a genuinely nice way to get to know Maltese wine without leaving town.
