Fly into MLA — there is only one airport
Both islands are served by Malta International. For Gozo you land at MLA and drive to the ferry; there are no scheduled flights to Gozo itself.

- Which airlines fly to Malta?
- Malta International (MLA) is well connected. From the UK and Ireland you have Air Malta’s successor KM Malta Airlines, plus Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and Wizz Air on the low-cost side. From mainland Europe, Lufthansa, ITA, and the big low-cost carriers all serve it. There is one airport on the islands, so every flight lands at MLA.
- When is the cheapest time to fly to Malta?
- Shoulder season — May, June, late September and October — is the sweet spot: warm, cheaper than the July/August peak, and far more pleasant with young children. Winter fares are the lowest of all but the swimming is gone. For summer travel, book two to three months ahead; fares climb steeply as July and August approach.
- How long is the flight to Malta?
- Roughly 3 hours from London, a little more from the north of the UK, and around 2 to 3 hours from most of central Europe. It is a manageable length with children, especially on a morning flight that lands in time for a late lunch and a swim.
- Is Malta airport easy with kids?
- Yes — it is small and modern, and you are through it quickly. It is about a 20 to 30 minute drive to most of Malta and roughly 45 minutes plus the ferry to Gozo. Book your car hire or a transfer in advance so you are not sorting it with tired children at arrivals.
