Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz is a five-star resort on the edge of the small village of San Lawrenz, in the quieter western part of Gozo. Built from the island's yellow limestone and surrounded by around 30,000 square metres of gardens, it sits about 5km from Victoria, the island's main town. There are roughly 137 rooms and suites, all with balconies looking over the countryside or the gardens and pools, plus larger residences that suit families.
Families are well catered for here. There are three outdoor pools, split into an adults-only pool, a family pool and a children's pool, alongside two heated indoor pools, so there is somewhere to swim whatever the weather. The large spa and Ayurveda centre, hammam, steam room and gym make it appealing to couples and anyone after a calm, wellness-focused stay, while tennis and squash courts add some activity. Note that children aged 0 to 12 can use the spa only between 07:00 and 15:00.
Dining is spread across several venues, from the Mediterranean L'Ortolan and Il-Baldakkin bistro and lounge with its terrace, to Italian and Maltese options and a seasonal poolside grill. Handy practical touches include free parking on site and a complimentary shuttle bus to Victoria and Ramla Beach, which helps if you want to explore the island without your own car.
